How We Verify Coupons

Last updated: September 24, 2026

Every coupon, deal and store policy on KouponsKeeper is checked against the retailer’s own official website before we publish it. We show the date each offer was checked, we never make up promo codes, and offers with an end date drop out of the active list automatically once they expire. This page explains exactly how that works, what our “Verified” label means, and what it does not mean.

Our standards at a glance

  • Official sources only: offers and policies come from the retailer’s own website, such as its sale, promotions, rewards, shipping, returns and help pages.
  • No invented codes: a promo code is listed only if the retailer publishes it. Everything else is listed as a deal with no code needed.
  • Dated checks: each verified offer records the date we checked it.
  • Automatic expiry: when an offer has a published end date, it leaves the active list after that date and moves to the expired section.
  • Shopper feedback: anyone can vote on whether an offer worked, and those votes are shown on the coupon.
  • Money never buys a listing: commissions and ads do not decide whether an offer is listed.

Where our offers come from

We collect offers directly from each retailer’s official website. Typical sources are:

  • The retailer’s sale, deals, clearance and promotions pages.
  • Offer terms printed on the homepage or in site-wide banners.
  • Official loyalty, membership and rewards program pages.
  • Student, military, teacher and other discount pages published by the retailer.
  • Help center pages for shipping, returns, price matching and payment options.

We do not copy codes from other coupon websites, forums or social media posts, because codes found there are often expired, private or limited to one account. If we cannot confirm an offer on the retailer’s own site, we don’t publish it. When we join affiliate programs, official offer feeds from retailers may become an additional source, but the same rule applies: the offer must be one the retailer itself publishes.

What “Verified” means

An offer marked Verified was checked against the retailer’s official website on the date shown. At that point, the offer was live on the retailer’s site, and we recorded its main conditions, such as the minimum spend, eligible items, membership requirements and the end date when one was published.

What Verified does not mean: it is not a promise that an offer will work for every order. Retailers can end promotions early, exclude items or brands, limit an offer to new customers, members or one use per account, or require a minimum order. Always read the offer details, and check the final price in your cart before you pay.

We also show shopper votes. When you click “Did it work?”, your vote helps other shoppers see which offers are working right now, and it tells us which offers to re-check first.

Codes vs. deals

KouponsKeeper lists two kinds of offers:

  • Promo codes (“Show Code”): a code you type at checkout. We list a code only when the retailer publishes it on its own website or in its official promotion terms.
  • Deals (“Get Deal”): discounts that need no code, such as a sitewide sale, a clearance section, a free shipping threshold, a rewards perk or a student discount through a verification service. Clicking “Get Deal” takes you to the retailer’s official page for that offer.

Most retailers publish far more deals than codes, so many store pages show mostly deals. We prefer a short list of real offers to a long list of codes that don’t work.

Expiry and updates

  • When a retailer publishes an end date, we save it with the offer. After that date, the offer leaves the active list automatically and appears in the expired section of the store page, so you can see what the store has offered before.
  • Offers without a published end date stay active until we re-check them or shoppers report that they no longer work.
  • Store pages show the date they were last updated, and the month in the page title reflects the current month.
  • We re-check offers regularly, and right away when a shopper reports a problem.

How we research store guides

Most store pages include a shopping guide covering free shipping, returns, rewards programs, special discounts, price matching, payment options and the best times to buy. For these guides we:

  1. Read the retailer’s official policy and help pages for each topic.
  2. Record the details the retailer publishes, such as thresholds, return windows, program names and membership fees, and mark them “as of” the month we checked.
  3. Leave out details we cannot confirm, or say plainly that a detail is not published, instead of guessing.
  4. Never include promo codes in the guide text. Codes live only in the offer list, where they can expire automatically.

Our comparison guides, such as free shipping, return policies, price matching, student discounts and military discounts, are built from the same store research. Our sales calendar uses dates announced by retailers, and says clearly when a date is only a typical pattern and has not been announced yet.

How offers are ordered

On each store page, active offers are ordered to show the most useful ones first. Offers our editors feature as the best current value come first, then exclusive and verified offers, and then the newest offers. Whether an offer is listed, and where it appears, does not depend on whether the retailer pays us a commission. Read our affiliate disclosure to see how KouponsKeeper earns money.

Tools we use

We use software to help us work efficiently. This includes AI assistants that help us research retailer pages and draft store guides and comparison pages. Software doesn’t decide what is true: every published fact must come from the retailer’s official pages, and details that can’t be confirmed there are left out or marked as not published. Expiry dates, vote counts and “last updated” dates are generated automatically from our coupon records.

Report a problem or a correction

If a code didn’t work, a policy has changed, or you found an offer we missed, tell us through our contact page. Choose “Report a code that does not work” or “Share a coupon”. We review every report, and we update or remove the offer when the retailer’s site confirms the change.

Verification FAQs

What does "Verified" mean on KouponsKeeper?

It means we checked the offer against the retailer's official website on the date shown and recorded its main conditions. It is not a guarantee that the offer works for every order, because retailers can end offers early or exclude items.

Where do KouponsKeeper coupons come from?

From each retailer's own website, such as its sale, promotions, rewards and help pages. We don't copy codes from other coupon sites, forums or social media.

Why do some stores show deals instead of promo codes?

We list a promo code only when the retailer publishes it. Most retailers publish more no-code deals, such as sales, free shipping thresholds and rewards perks, than codes.

What happens when a coupon expires?

If the retailer published an end date, the offer leaves the active list automatically after that date and moves to the expired section of the store page.

How do I report a coupon that doesn't work?

Vote on the coupon with "Did it work?" or send us a report through the contact page. We re-check reported offers and update or remove them when the retailer's site confirms the change.

Do commissions affect which coupons you list?

No. Whether an offer is listed, and where it appears, doesn't depend on whether the retailer pays us a commission.
