Of the 327 stores we cover, only a small group match a competitor’s lower price as of September 2026. They include Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports + Outdoors, PetSmart, Petco, Dell, HP and Samsung. More stores will refund the difference if their own price drops soon after you buy. Target gives 14 days, Macy’s 10, Microsoft Store 60 and IKEA Family members 90. Amazon, Walmart and Target do not match competitors’ prices.

Price matching vs. price adjustments: what’s the difference?

Competitor price matching means a store lowers its price to equal (or, at Academy, beat) a lower price from another retailer. You usually request it before you buy, or at the register, and you have to show proof such as an ad, a web page or a receipt.

With a price adjustment (also called price protection), a store refunds the difference when its own price drops after you’ve bought. It has nothing to do with competitors. You ask within a set window, usually 14 days, and the refund normally goes back to your original payment method.

Some stores offer both. Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy, HP, Foot Locker and Samsung match competitors and also adjust to their own lower price. Target, Gap, Old Navy, Macy’s, REI and Nike adjust only to their own prices. Most apparel and beauty brands offer neither, and the only fallback there is a return and repurchase within the return window.

Partial or unclear policies. Office Depot OfficeMax links to a price match policy in its site footer, but we couldn’t load the full terms. Check that page for the current competitors and conditions. Nordstrom has historically considered lower prices at select competitors, but its list and timing change, so ask customer service. Bed Bath & Beyond offers a price-match guarantee on registries only. Chewy has no formal guarantee, though customer service will hear a request.

Stores that don’t price match

No competitor matching, per the retailer:

• Amazon: no competitor matching and no routine price adjustments. Returning within 30 days and rebuying can work for eligible items.
• Walmart: doesn’t match competitors, Marketplace sellers or other Walmart stores.
• Target: matches only its own prices, not Amazon or Walmart.
• Expedia: discontinued the Hotel Price Guarantee in July 2026 with no replacement.
• eBay, DoorDash, Uber Eats and Instacart: no price matching, because sellers, merchants or retailers set the prices.
• H&M has said publicly that it doesn’t offer price adjustments. It also has a price-matching page, so confirm the current policy with customer service.
• HelloFresh doesn’t match other meal kits and generally won’t credit you retroactively.
• WeatherTech: doesn’t price match competitors or third-party resellers.
• Rhode: has no price-match policy and doesn’t match retail partners’ prices.

No published price-match policy: Adidas, Bath & Body Works, Clinique, Converse, Crocs, CVS Pharmacy, Dermstore, e.l.f. Cosmetics, Estée Lauder, HOKA, J.Crew, Kiehl’s, LEGO, MAC Cosmetics, New Balance, PUMA, Sephora, Skechers, Ulta Beauty, Vans, Victoria’s Secret, Walgreens and Wayfair.

No policy confirmed on the official pages we reviewed: Abercrombie & Fitch, B&H Photo, Banana Republic, BarkBox, Bass Pro Shops, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Columbia Sportswear, Crate & Barrel, Hollister, Logitech, lululemon, Michaels, Pottery Barn, Sam’s Club, Staples, The North Face, Uniqlo, Vrbo and West Elm. At several of these (Bass Pro Shops, Michaels, Sam’s Club, BJ’s and Staples, for example) the store suggests asking an associate or member services before you buy.

At these stores the practical workaround is to return and rebuy. If the item is unused and still in stock, return it within the window and reorder at the new price. Final-sale items can’t be returned, and return shipping fees can cancel out the savings (Wayfair and Crate & Barrel note fees may apply). Our return policies guide lists each store’s window.

Black Friday and holiday exclusions

Holiday prices are when a match or adjustment would pay off most, and they’re also what many policies exclude. Here’s what the official pages say as of September 2026:

• Best Buy excludes Black Friday pricing from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the following Monday.
• Apple‘s 14-day adjustment excludes limited-time sales and special events such as Black Friday.
• HP‘s price protection excludes doorbusters, Deal of the Day items, and Thanksgiving and Cyber Week sales. Its pre-purchase match excludes limited-time promotions.
• Newegg excludes holiday event prices such as Black Friday. During its FantasTech event it has offered a separate price protection promise for early shoppers, so read those event terms.
• Levi’s won’t adjust items bought before major events like Black Friday.
• Walmart stores won’t match Walmart.com special events such as Black Friday deals, Rollbacks and clearance.
• Kohl’s doesn’t give price adjustments during Thanksgiving week.
• Lenovo often excludes flash deals and limited-time doorbusters from price protection.
• Academy excludes timed events and limited-quantity offers. Dell excludes flash deals, and Dick’s excludes flash sales. Nordstrom may exclude certain sale events and flash sales, and DSW typically excludes special event pricing.

How to request a price match or adjustment, step by step

Competitor price match

1. Confirm the item is identical. It should have the same brand, model number, and usually the same color and size. HP asks for comparable specs on PCs, and Dell asks for matching key specifications.
2. Check the seller. Most stores match only the retailer itself, not marketplace sellers. Dick’s matches Amazon direct sales only, and Samsung requires the item to be sold and shipped by the other retailer.
3. Check it’s in stock and live. Best Buy, Lowe’s, Home Depot and PetSmart all require an available, currently active price.
4. Bring proof. Show the ad, product page or photo on your phone. PetSmart also accepts a receipt or other confirmation.
5. Use the right channel. In store, go to customer service (Best Buy, Home Depot) or ask at the register (Dick’s). For online orders, call or chat (Best Buy, Lowe’s). Petco matches only by phone at 877-738-6742. For Dell, contact sales before you buy or use the order support portal afterward.
6. Don’t stack. Lowe’s won’t combine a match with other discounts or coupons, and Best Buy coupons can’t be combined with a price match.

Price adjustment on the store’s own price

1. Note your purchase date. The clock usually starts at purchase or order date. Microsoft counts from delivery, and Macy’s counts from delivery for furniture and mattresses.
2. Check eligibility. Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle, Levi’s and Macy’s generally exclude items bought with a promo code or discount. Nike requires membership, and IKEA requires an IKEA Family card scanned at purchase.
3. Find the same item at the lower price. It should be the same style, color and size (Nike, REI).
4. Contact the right place. Online orders at Gap and Old Navy go through customer service, not stores. For store purchases at Levi’s, Old Navy or Carter’s, bring your receipt to a store. HP handles it through Order Support with your order number, and Costco at the membership counter.
5. Confirm how you’re refunded. Most refund your original payment method. Levi’s says 3-5 business days for shipped orders, while Newegg issues a Customer Care card and Hotels.com gives a coupon on nonrefundable bookings.

Does Target price match Amazon or Walmart?

Walmart does not match competitors' prices. Walmart stores will match the price of an identical, in-stock item on Walmart.com if you ask at checkout, but Walmart.com does not adjust prices after an online purchase.

Does Amazon price match?

Does Best Buy price match during Black Friday?

What can I do if a store doesn't price match?
