What Prime Big Deal Days is
Prime Big Deal Days is Amazon’s second members-only sale of the year. Many shoppers call it “October Prime Day.” The main Prime Day usually happens in July. The October event comes before the holiday shopping season, and Amazon promotes it as an early chance to buy gifts, holiday decorations and seasonal items.
In 2026, Amazon says the event has deals in more than 35 categories and runs in 22 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Japan. The dates can be different in each country. This page covers the US event.
Deals are limited and last “only while supplies last,” in Amazon’s words. Some offers sell out before the 48 hours are over. That’s why the times of the deal drops matter.
For a full list of the year’s sale dates, from Black Friday to next summer’s clearance events, see our 2026-2027 sales calendar.

Who can shop: Prime plans and free trials
Every Prime Big Deal Days offer requires Prime. These are the US plans and prices as of September 2026:
| Plan | Price | Trial | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime (monthly) | $14.99/month | 30-day free trial, if eligible | Anyone |
| Prime (annual) | $139/year | 30-day free trial, if eligible | Anyone who shops year-round |
| Prime for Young Adults | $7.49/month or $69/year after the trial | 6 months free | Ages 18-24 and higher-education students |
| Prime Access | $6.99/month after the trial | 30-day free trial | Qualifying government-assistance recipients, such as EBT |
How to use this information:
- A trial can cover the event. The regular 30-day trial is long enough to include Prime Big Deal Days. If you start it now, it will also cover the early deals. If you don’t plan to stay a member, note the renewal date, because a monthly membership renews at $14.99.
- Young adults have extra savings. Amazon says Prime for Young Adults members get an extra 5% cash back on eligible deals in beauty, apparel, PCs, electronics and personal care during the event. See our student discounts guide for other student offers.
- The Prime Visa earns rewards. With an eligible Prime membership, the Chase-issued Prime Visa earns 5% back at Amazon and has no annual fee. That comes on top of the sale price.
- You don’t need a promo code. Event deals show on the product page. Some listings also have a “Clip coupon” box that you tick before adding the item to your cart.
Without Prime, you can still use regular Amazon savings, including free standard shipping on eligible orders of $35 or more. The members-only event prices won’t apply. See our Amazon store page for current codes, shipping rules and Prime details.
How to prepare for Prime Big Deal Days
Most of the preparation is done before October 6. A short plan keeps you from buying things just because they’re discounted.
1. Make a list with price limits
Add the items you actually need to an Amazon list or your cart now. Next to each item, write the highest price you’re willing to pay. When the event starts, you only have to check whether an item is under that limit, so you don’t have to judge every discount.
2. Set deal alerts
Amazon says Alexa for Shopping can set deal and price alerts for specific products or categories. It can also check your saved items for deals. If you don’t use Alexa, check your list in the Amazon app after each deal drop.
3. Check the price history
Amazon’s event FAQ says product pages have a “Price History” link with up to 365 days of pricing data. Use it to see whether the event price is lower than the item’s usual price, not only lower than a list price. Third-party price trackers also exist, but they aren’t run by Amazon, so treat them as a rough guide. Sometimes they miss prices from other sellers or prices that apply only to Prime members.
4. Plan around the deal drops
New deals appear at midnight, 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. PDT. Popular limited-time deals can sell out quickly. If you’re watching one item, check it right after a drop.
5. Know what’s usually discounted
According to our Amazon data, Amazon device discounts show up throughout the year, and Amazon lists devices and Kindle among the early deals for 2026. Amazon says there are deals in more than 35 categories. Its event pages also point to a Holiday Shop, toy lists, Halloween deals and gift guides. If you’re shopping for a specific product, the only way to know whether it’s discounted is to check when the event starts. Amazon doesn’t publish a full deal list in advance.
6. Check the seller
The same product can be listed by several sellers. Look at “Other sellers on Amazon,” shipping costs and the seller’s return terms before you buy. Items sold by third parties follow that seller’s return policy.
7. Look at Resale and Outlet too
Amazon Resale (open-box and used) and Amazon Outlet (overstock) are often cheaper than new items, and Amazon’s return policy still covers them. They’re worth checking if the event price on a new item isn’t low enough.
Tip: Don’t spend more just to get free shipping. Prime members get free shipping on eligible items anyway, so there’s no reason to add extra items to your cart.
Competing sales at other stores in October 2026
Amazon isn’t the only store with sales in early October. The table below lists events at stores we cover. Each one was checked against the retailer’s official site. If a 2026 date hasn’t been announced, we say so instead of guessing.
| Store | Event | Dates/timing | Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Prime Big Deal Days | October 6-7, 2026 (Prime members) | Amazon coupons |
| Target | Fall Target Circle Deal Days (up to 40% off thousands of items, per Target) | October 6-7, 2026; Circle 360 early access October 5 | Target coupons |
| Walmart | Walmart Deals (fall) | Reported for October 5-11, 2026 (not yet listed on walmart.com when we checked October 4); the 2025 fall event ran October 7-12 | Walmart coupons |
| Newegg | FantasTech (fall edition) | A second FantasTech has run in early October in recent years; 2026 dates not confirmed | Newegg coupons |
| Skechers | Member Appreciation Month | Rotating member-only offers through October 31, 2026 | Skechers coupons |
| DSW | Fall savings events | Typically September and October | DSW coupons |
| American Eagle | Fall clearance and early holiday offers | Typically October | American Eagle coupons |
| Michaels | Halloween decor and craft sales (such as Boo It Yourself) | September to October | Michaels coupons |
| Sephora | Fall Beauty Insider Savings Event | Typically late October to November; 2026 dates not yet published (2025 ran October 31 to November 10) | Sephora coupons |
Some notes on these overlaps:
- Target vs. Amazon: The two events run on the same days, which makes it easy to compare. As of September 2026, Target matches its own lower prices (in stores, on Target.com and Circle deals) within 14 days, but it doesn’t match competitors like Amazon. Amazon doesn’t price match at all. Compare prices before you pay, not after. Our price match guide has each store’s rules.
- Walmart: News outlets report Walmart’s fall deals event for October 5-11, 2026, which would overlap Prime Big Deal Days completely. We couldn’t confirm the dates on Walmart’s own site yet, so check walmart.com before a big purchase. The 2025 event ran October 7-12 and was open to everyone, with no membership needed.
- Beauty shoppers: Sephora’s fall savings event usually comes a few weeks after Prime Big Deal Days. If you buy beauty products at Sephora, compare the timing before stocking up on Amazon.
- Tech shoppers: Apple often updates its Mac and iPad lines in October and November, and older models tend to drop in price after new ones launch. If you’re buying a laptop or tablet, check for new models first.
How to tell whether a Prime Big Deal Days deal is real
A red “deal” badge doesn’t always mean a good price. Before you buy, check these things:
- Compare the price with the item’s history, not the list price. Use the Price History link on the product page. If the event price is about the same as the price for most of the past few months, you’re not getting much of a discount.
- Check the exact model. Some deals are on older versions, different sizes or bundles. Make sure the model number and specs match what you researched.
- Check other stores. Look up the same item at Target, Walmart, Best Buy or the brand’s own store. Neither Amazon nor Target will match a competitor’s price after you buy.
- Look at the seller and ratings. A very low price from a seller with few reviews and strict return terms carries more risk than the same deal sold by Amazon.
- Count the full cost. Add shipping (for items that aren’t Prime-eligible), return costs for large items and any accessories you’ll need to buy.
- Decide whether Black Friday might be better. Our Amazon data notes broad discounts on electronics, toys and home during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November. If you’re not in a hurry, write down the October price and compare it in November. Our Black Friday 2026 guide and Cyber Monday 2026 guide track those events.
A simple rule: buy in October if the price is under the limit you set, you need the item soon, or it’s a gift you want to have ready early. If you’re unsure, wait. Black Friday is seven weeks later.
Returns on Prime Big Deal Days purchases
As of September 2026, most items sold and shipped by Amazon can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund or replacement, as long as they’re in their original, unused condition. Many returns are free at drop-off points such as Whole Foods Market, Kohl’s, UPS and Staples, often without a box or label.
- The holiday extension may not cover October orders. Our Amazon data says Amazon typically extends return windows for items bought in November and December. Unless Amazon announces otherwise, treat an October 6-7 order as a standard 30-day return. Check the return-by date in Your Orders.
- Third-party sellers have their own policies. Items sold by other sellers follow those sellers’ return terms.
- Used or damaged returns may cost you. Items returned used, damaged or with missing parts can get a partial refund or a restocking fee. Large or heavy items may have return shipping costs.
- You can return and rebuy. Amazon doesn’t adjust prices after purchase. If an eligible item gets cheaper within your return window, you can return it and buy it again at the lower price.
Other stores with sales that week have different return rules. As of September 2026, Walmart says items bought October 1 through December 31 can be returned through January 31, so a Walmart purchase in early October gets the longer window. Gap‘s holiday extension starts later: items bought October 15 through December 24 can be returned through January 15. Compare return windows in our return policies guide.
What comes after October
Prime Big Deal Days is the first of several fall sales. These are the US dates for the rest of 2026:
- Halloween: Saturday, October 31. Candy, costume and decor sales at stores like Michaels, Sam’s Club and BJ’s usually run through September and October.
- Veterans Day: Wednesday, November 11. Walgreens holds a military and veterans discount event in November. See our military discounts guide.
- Black Friday: Friday, November 27. Many retailers start early deals in November, for example Best Buy.
- Cyber Monday: Monday, November 30.
Retailers usually announce Black Friday ad dates in the fall. We’ll add them to our Black Friday page once they’re confirmed. For the full year, including Prime Day in July 2027, which is expected but not yet announced, see the sales calendar.
