American Eagle shopping guide: how to save more

How to save at American Eagle: the smartest ways

American Eagle runs promotions almost constantly, so the real savings come from loyalty perks and smart timing. As of September 2026, these tactics deliver the most value:

1. Join Real Rewards before you buy. It's free, you earn points on every purchase at AE and Aerie, and you get a $5 birthday reward during your birthday month.
2. Climb to Level 2 or 3. Spending $200 in a year unlocks Level 2 (15 points per dollar, free shipping at $50), and $500 unlocks Level 3 (20 points per dollar, free shipping at $25 and free mail returns).
3. Redeem rewards before they expire. Reward certificates are valid for 60 days after they are issued.
4. Verify as a student. UNiDAYS and Student Beans members can unlock 20% off; it generally can't be stacked with other codes, so compare it against the current sitewide promo.
5. Request a price adjustment. If a full-price item you bought is marked down by AE within 14 days, you can ask for one adjustment per item.
6. Shop clearance and "prices as marked" events. AE regularly runs tiered and clearance promotions where extra discounts apply automatically at checkout.
7. Use in-store pickup where available to skip shipping on small orders that don't reach the free-shipping threshold.
8. Return in store, not by mail. In-store returns are free at AE, Aerie, OFFLINE and AE Factory locations, while mail returns cost $5 unless you're Level 3 or a cardholder.

Shipping & delivery options

Standard shipping is free on orders of $75 or more; smaller orders pay a flat $7.95. Real Rewards Level 2 members get free standard shipping from $50, Level 3 members from $25, and Real Rewards credit cardholders on every order.

APO/FPO/DPO and P.O. box addresses use standard shipping, and AE fragrance has extra shipping restrictions.

Return & exchange policy

As of September 2026, American Eagle offers 30 days for a full refund and up to 60 days for merchandise credit. Online orders get an additional seven days to allow for shipping. Items must be unworn, unwashed and undamaged with tags attached.

• In store: free at AE, Aerie, OFFLINE and AE Factory stores. You can exchange, get a refund to the original payment (with receipt), or take merchandise credit.
• By mail: a $5 fee applies, waived for Real Rewards Level 3 members and credit cardholders.
• Not returnable: Final Sale items. In-store purchases can't be returned by mail.
• Holidays: AE usually extends the window for purchases made from late October onward.

Mail returns can take a few weeks to arrive and process, with the refund issued afterward.

Real Rewards by American Eagle & Aerie explained

Real Rewards is free and covers purchases at American Eagle, Aerie and OFFLINE. You earn points on qualifying spend, and every 1,250 points automatically converts to a $5 reward.

Level status lasts through the year you earn it plus the following year. Cardholders also get free mail returns on most categories (clearance excluded).

Student, military, teacher, senior & other discounts

• Students: 20% off through UNiDAYS or Student Beans after verification; exclusions such as clearance and gift cards may apply.
• Military, teachers and seniors: American Eagle does not advertise an ongoing online discount for these groups as of September 2026.

Price matching & price adjustments

AE does not match competitors' prices. It does offer its own price adjustment: if AE reduces the price of a full-price item within 14 days of your purchase, you can request one adjustment per item with proof of purchase. Items bought on sale or with a coupon or promotion (other than Real Rewards rewards) are not eligible.

Payment options

American Eagle accepts major credit cards, PayPal, AE and Aerie gift cards, and the Real Rewards credit card. Buy now, pay later options include Afterpay and Klarna, with dedicated FAQ pages on ae.com. Available options appear at checkout.

When American Eagle has its biggest sales

• January: post-holiday clearance with deep markdowns.
• June-July: summer clearance events.
• July-August: back-to-school promotions on jeans and basics.
• October: fall clearance and early holiday offers.
• Black Friday and Cyber Monday: typically the strongest sitewide deals of the year.

Dates and discount levels change each year, so treat these as typical patterns.

How to use an American Eagle promo code

1. Sign in to your Real Rewards account on ae.com or the AE app so rewards and member perks load.
2. Add items to your bag and open the bag page.
3. Enter the code in the promo code box and apply it; Real Rewards certificates are applied in the same area.
4. Check the order summary before paying.

Codes commonly exclude clearance, Final Sale items, gift cards and some collaborations, and usually can't be combined with the student discount. In stores, show the code or reward barcode at the register.
