Cloudways shopping guide: how to save more

Guide last reviewed: September 2026

How to save at Cloudways: the smartest ways

Cloudways works differently from traditional hosts: you pay for cloud server time by the hour rather than prepaying for a year. That changes how you save. As of September 2026, these are the tactics that matter most:

1. Claim the current promotion. The pricing page advertises 30% off for 3 months on all plans through its Claim Offer button.
2. Test first with the free trial. The 3-day trial needs no credit card, so you can check performance before you pay a cent.
3. Start small and scale. Flexible plans on DigitalOcean start at $11 per month, and you can resize servers later instead of paying for capacity you do not need yet.
4. Delete idle servers. Because billing is hourly, removing a test or staging server you no longer use stops the charges.
5. Use the free migration. Cloudways migrates your first website free; move any others yourself with the free WordPress Migrator plugin to avoid paid migration fees.
6. Skip paid caching plugins. Object Cache Pro and Redis are included, along with the free Breeze caching plugin.
7. Buy Advanced Support only if you need it. If you do, the listed lifetime deal is $25 per month instead of $100.
8. Watch expiring codes. Cloudways runs dated promo codes on its promo page; one advertised there had already expired when we checked, so always confirm the date before relying on a code.

Plans & pricing: monthly vs annual

Cloudways does not sell annual contracts. You are charged hourly for what you use and invoiced in the first week of each month for the previous month. As of September 2026, the official pricing page shows:

Flexible plans are also available on Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud, with prices that vary by provider, region and server size. Taxes such as sales tax may be added to your invoice depending on your billing address.

Flexible or Autonomous? Flexible plans suit people who want to pick a cloud provider and server size and manage resources themselves, and they are usually the cheapest way to start on Cloudways. Autonomous plans cost more per month, but they are fully managed and scale automatically, which can save money if the alternative is paying for a large server that sits idle most of the time. If your traffic is steady and modest, a small Flexible server is typically the budget choice; if you get big traffic spikes, compare the Autonomous tiers before you sign up.

Free trial, refunds & money-back guarantee

Cloudways offers a 3-day free trial with no credit card required, which is enough time to launch a server, install WordPress and run a quick test migration. We did not find a money-back guarantee or refund policy on the pricing page or billing help articles we reviewed. Because you are billed hourly in arrears, the main protection is that you only pay for the hours your servers run, so shutting down servers you do not need stops further charges. Check with Cloudways support for refund terms before you commit.

Migrations, agencies & multi-site savings

Cloudways lets you host many sites on one server, so agencies can consolidate client sites instead of paying per site. Its agency page highlights free website migrations with expert assistance, free SSL across all client sites and included staging tools. Cloudways also runs an agency partner program that it says offers priority support, a dedicated partner manager, exclusive discounts and co-marketing; apply through the official agency page to learn the current terms. Agencies can also resell Cloudways hosting to clients.

Student, nonprofit & other discounts

We did not find a student, teacher, military or nonprofit discount on Cloudways' official site as of September 2026. The main savings are the sitewide promotion, the free trial and the included extras.

Payment options

According to the Cloudways billing guide, it accepts major credit and debit cards such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express, as well as PayPal. Invoices are generated monthly for the previous month's usage.

When Cloudways has its biggest sales

Cloudways runs dated promotions throughout the year, including seasonal promo codes with countdown timers on its promo page, and it has offered event discounts tied to conferences such as WordCamp Europe. A summer code on the promo page had expired by mid-September 2026. The live offer on the pricing page when we checked was 30% off for 3 months on all plans. Check the official Cloudways promo page and pricing page for the current deal.

How to use a Cloudways promo code

Cloudways says its promo codes are applied automatically at checkout when you sign up through the offer link on its promo page. To use one, click the Claim Offer or signup button on the official promo or pricing page, create your account, and confirm the discount appears before launching a paid server. Promotions are generally for new customers, so existing account holders may not be eligible.
