Dick's Sporting Goods shopping guide: how to save more

Guide last reviewed: September 2026

How to save at Dick's Sporting Goods: the smartest ways

Dick's rewards loyal shoppers more than almost any other sporting goods chain. Combine ScoreCard points, price matching and seasonal sales for the best results.

1. Join ScoreCard for free. Members earn 1 point per dollar, and every 150 points turns into a $5 reward, a faster payout than the program's old 300-point threshold.
2. Hit the $49 free-shipping mark or pick up in store. ScoreCard members get free standard shipping at $49; below that, free store pickup saves the shipping fee.
3. Ask for a price match. Dick's matches local retailers within 25 miles and a list of online competitors, including Amazon when Amazon is the direct seller.
4. Claim a price adjustment. If Dick's lowers the price within 14 days of your purchase, you can request the difference.
5. Earn points on services. ScoreCard now awards points on services such as glove steaming, bike repairs and climbing wall access.
6. Use the MOVE feature. Members can earn up to 3 points a day by logging walks, steps or workouts in the Dick's app.
7. Do the math on ScoreCard+. The $99 annual fee comes with $100 in guaranteed rewards ($25 each quarter) and unlimited free shipping, so it can pay for itself if you use every quarterly reward.
8. Shop clearance and Going, Going, Gone! Dick's discount banner and clearance sections carry marked-down gear, though they follow a shorter return window.
9. Sign up for emails and texts. Subscribers receive periodic percentage-off offers and advance notice of big sales.

Shipping & delivery options

Dick's offers several ways to get your gear, and the cheapest is often free in-store pickup.

• Standard shipping: Free for ScoreCard members on orders of $49 or more; smaller orders pay a shipping fee shown at checkout.
• ScoreCard+: Members get unlimited free standard shipping with no minimum.
• Buy online, pick up in store: Order online and collect at your local store, with curbside pickup available at many locations.
• Same-day delivery: Available in select areas for eligible items; fees and availability appear at checkout.

Return & exchange policy

As of September 2026, most items can be returned within 90 days. For store purchases, the clock starts on the receipt date; for online orders, it starts on the original ship date.

• Proof of purchase: A receipt, packing slip, order barcode or verified purchase record. Without one, customer service may be able to locate the transaction, but approval is not guaranteed.
• Electronics: Opened electronics have 30 days and must come back with the original packaging, manuals and accessories.
• Bats: Used baseball and softball bats cannot be returned.
• Pre-owned and demo items: Exchange only, within 7 days.
• Warehouse Sale and Going, Going, Gone!: These follow a separate 30-day policy.
• Return shipping: You may pay to return by mail; returning online orders to a store avoids the fee.
• Refunds: Issued to the original payment method and can take up to 14 business days to appear.

ScoreCard rewards and ScoreCard+ explained

Dick's revamped its loyalty program in 2026, adding a paid tier on July 1, 2026, alongside the free ScoreCard.

Gold status: Free members who spend $500 or more in a year reach Gold, which adds a $10 annual reward and one 3x points opportunity.

Credit card: Dick's also offers a store credit card tied to ScoreCard; check the ScoreCard benefits page for current earning rates.

Student, military, teacher, senior & other discounts

Dick's does not offer a company-wide everyday student, military, teacher or senior discount as of September 2026. Some individual stores may extend a military discount at their discretion, so it is worth asking at the register. Otherwise, the most reliable savings come from ScoreCard, email and text offers, price matching and seasonal sales.

Price matching & price adjustments

Dick's has one of the more flexible price-match policies in sporting goods retail.

• Local retailers: Matches identical items at local stores within 25 miles.
• Online competitors: Matches listed retailers such as Amazon (direct sales only), Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Nike, Academy Sports and Bass Pro Shops.
• Price adjustments: If Dick's, Golf Galaxy or Field & Stream lowers the price within 14 days of your purchase, you can claim the difference.
• Exclusions: Outlets, wholesale clubs, clearance, BOGO offers, flash sales and pre-owned pricing are not matched.
• How to request: Ask at the register in store, or call customer service for online orders.

Payment options

Dick's accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Dick's gift cards and its store credit card. Buy now, pay later services such as Klarna and Afterpay are also listed as options for Dick's shoppers, though availability can differ between the website, app and stores. Check the payment choices shown at checkout.

When Dick's Sporting Goods has its biggest sales

• Back to school (July to September): Deals on backpacks, cleats, team sports gear and athletic apparel.
• Black Friday and Cyber Monday (late November): Typically the deepest discounts of the year on fitness equipment, outerwear and footwear.
• Holiday season (December): Gift-focused deals, often with bonus rewards promotions.
• Father's Day (June): Sales on golf and outdoor gear.
• End of season: Clearance as sports seasons change, such as winter gear in late winter and summer gear in early fall.
• Warehouse Sale events: Periodic events with steep markdowns and their own return rules.
