How to save on DoorDash: the smartest ways

On DoorDash, fees matter as much as menu prices. The best savings come from cutting delivery and service fees and stacking in-app promotions.

1. Get DashPass if you order often. Members pay $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders. DoorDash says subscribers save an average of $4 to $5 per eligible order.
2. Choose the annual plan. At $96 a year, annual DashPass works out to $8 a month, versus $9.99 month to month.
3. Meet the order minimum. In the U.S., DashPass benefits generally apply when your subtotal is at least $12 for restaurants and convenience stores. Adding a small item can unlock the $0 delivery fee.
4. Verify as a student. DashPass for Students costs half the regular price, and the free 12-month student offer is open through October 12, 2026.
5. Use pickup. Choosing pickup instead of delivery removes the delivery fee and the Dasher tip, a simple way to cut costs for nearby restaurants.
6. Browse the Offers tab. Restaurants and stores run their own deals, such as a percentage off or a free item, and many are exclusive to DashPass members.
7. Check your credit cards. The DoorDash Rewards Mastercard from Chase earns 4% back on DoorDash orders and includes a year of DashPass for new cardmembers.
8. Try DashPass free first. New subscribers can usually start with a free trial; cancel before it ends if it does not fit your habits.

Delivery fees, service fees & pickup

Every DoorDash order total can include several parts: the menu price, a delivery fee, a service fee, a possible small-order fee, taxes and an optional tip.

• Delivery fee: Varies by distance, demand and merchant. DashPass members pay $0 on eligible orders that meet the minimum subtotal.
• Service fee: A fee on most orders that DashPass reduces on eligible orders.
• Menu prices: Merchants set their own prices on DoorDash, and they can be higher than in-store prices.
• Pickup: Order ahead and collect the food yourself to avoid delivery fees.
• Beyond restaurants: DoorDash also delivers from grocery, convenience and retail stores, and DashPass benefits apply at participating merchants.

Cancellation & refund policy

DoorDash does not have product returns in the usual sense. Instead, refunds depend on when you cancel and on what went wrong with the order.

How to cancel: Open the order in the app or on the website, select Help, then Cancel Order.

Quality Guarantee: For grocery orders from stores showing the Quality Guarantee banner, you can report spoiled, stale, missing, incorrect, damaged or poorly substituted items within 24 hours of delivery. Eligible issues are refunded or credited up to the amount paid for the item. Alcohol and gift cards are excluded.

All refunds and credits are at DoorDash's discretion under its consumer terms.

DashPass membership explained

Benefits: $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders, DashPass-exclusive promotions and priority customer support. DashPass also works on Caviar.

Cancelling: If you cancel during a free trial, benefits stop right away. If you cancel after being billed, you keep DashPass until the end of that billing cycle.

Credit card: The no-annual-fee DoorDash Rewards Mastercard, issued by Chase, earns 4% cash back on DoorDash and Caviar orders, 3% on dining, 2% at grocery stores and 1% elsewhere. New cardmembers get a year of DashPass, and cardholders who spend $10,000 a year earn DashPass for the following year.

Student, military, teacher, senior & other discounts

Students get the only official group discount: DashPass for Students at $4.99 a month or $48 a year, available to enrolled university and post-secondary students who pass verification. From August 17 to October 12, 2026, eligible students can sign up for 12 months of Student DashPass at $0. Each person can hold only one student plan.

We did not find an official DoorDash military, teacher or senior discount as of September 2026.

Price matching & price adjustments

DoorDash does not price match. Merchants set their own menu prices, and delivery and service fees change with distance and demand. To compare, check the restaurant's own website or app, or choose pickup to avoid delivery fees.

Payment options

DoorDash accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Venmo and Cash App, and you can save a backup payment method to your account. Caviar also supports Apple Pay on iOS and Google Pay on Android. DoorDash gift cards and account credits can be applied to orders. SNAP/EBT can be used on eligible grocery items at participating stores.

When DoorDash has its best deals

• Back to school (August to October): DoorDash's biggest student push, including the free Student DashPass window.
• New-user offers: First orders and DashPass trials often come with extra savings.
• Weekly merchant promos: Restaurants rotate deals in the Offers tab, many for DashPass members only.

Offers vary by city and change often, so check the app before you order.

How to use a DoorDash promo code

1. Add items to your cart in the DoorDash app or on the website.
2. Go to checkout and find the promotions or promo code field.
3. Enter the code and apply it, then confirm the discount appears in the order total.
4. Place the order before the code's expiration.

Common exclusions: Many codes are for new customers only, require a minimum subtotal, apply to specific restaurants or categories, or cannot be combined with other promotions. Alcohol is often excluded.
