How to save at MAC Cosmetics: the smartest ways

MAC is a professional-grade makeup brand that doesn't often discount its core line. Still, you can cut the cost of an order with the right timing and perks. As of September 2026:

1. Join M·A·C Lover before you buy. The loyalty program is free, and signing up gets you 15% off your next purchase.
2. Sign up for emails. New email subscribers get 10% off their first order, offered through the sign-up form in the site footer.
3. Shop the Deals page. The sale collection offers online exclusives at up to 30% off select items, and the discount applies automatically in your cart.
4. Watch for M·A·C Goodbyes. MAC's clearance event features discounts of up to 40% off original prices on products being retired.
5. Reach $60 for free shipping. Standard shipping is $8 below $60, so adding a lipstick or brush can pay for itself.
6. Recycle your empties. Through Back to M·A·C, returning clean, eligible empty containers gets you a free limited-edition makeup bag.
7. Return in store to avoid the fee. Mailing a return back costs $7, but returning to a MAC store is free.
8. Move up a tier for birthday perks. Silver and Gold members get double points in their birthday month and a free birthday gift bag of best-sellers.

Shipping & delivery options

MAC's shipping policy lists three U.S. options as of September 2026:

Orders to P.O. Boxes and APO/FPO/DPO addresses can't use Overnight or 2nd Day shipping, and express shipping isn't available in some remote areas. MAC doesn't ship internationally from the U.S. site. Customers in other countries use their regional MAC website. MAC PRO members get complimentary standard shipping on orders under $45.

Return & exchange policy

According to MAC's refund policy, products bought online must be returned within 30 days of delivery in new or gently used condition. The refund goes back to your original payment method, and credit card refunds take 7 to 10 business days to post after processing.

• Online returns carry a non-refundable $7 shipping fee. Returning to a MAC store is free.
• Shipping and delivery fees aren't refunded.
• Engraved items and items marked "final sale" or "not returnable" can't be returned.
• Free promotional items must be returned with the original product.
• eGift cards can't be returned or cancelled, and MAC PRO membership purchases can't be returned in store.

Returns are processed within 3 business days of reaching the warehouse, and you get an email confirming the refund amount.

M·A·C Lover rewards explained

M·A·C Lover is free to join. You earn 1 point for every $1 spent, plus bonus points during promotions. You can redeem points for products and purchase discounts.

Full terms are on the program's terms and conditions page.

Student, military, teacher & other discounts

As of September 2026, MAC doesn't publish a student, military or teacher discount on its U.S. site. The closest alternatives are the M·A·C Lover sign-up offer, the email sign-up discount and MAC PRO membership, a separate program with its own shipping perks.

Price matching & price adjustments

MAC doesn't publish a price-match or price-adjustment policy. For help with a recent order, contact customer service by live chat or at 1-800-588-0070. MAC products are also sold at department stores and beauty retailers, which run their own sales and loyalty programs, so it can pay to compare. Before you buy elsewhere, weigh what you give up: the M·A·C Lover sign-up discount and points are earned through MAC's own program. You can also book in-store appointments through the site if you want help choosing a shade before you buy, which can save you from paying the online return fee.

Payment options

MAC sells eGift cards on its site. The pages we reviewed didn't list other accepted payment methods, so check the options at checkout.

When MAC Cosmetics has its biggest sales

MAC's markdowns are concentrated in the Deals section and the M·A·C Goodbyes clearance event, where retired shades can be up to 40% off. Historically, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November and the holiday season bring gift sets and extra offers. Loyalty members also get access to exclusive sales. Shades in the Goodbyes event are being retired and may not return, so if you find a favorite there, it can make sense to buy a backup while the discount lasts.
