Nordstrom Rack shopping guide: how to save more

Nordstrom Rack at a glance

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price arm of Nordstrom, selling brand-name fashion, shoes, accessories, beauty and home items at reduced prices in stores and at NordstromRack.com. Because the prices are already discounted, the smartest savings at Rack usually come from shipping thresholds, free in-store returns, clearance markdowns and Nordstrom credit card perks. This guide explains the policies listed on the official site so you can plan your order.

Best ways to save at Nordstrom Rack

• Reach the $89 free shipping threshold. Most orders over $89 before tax ship free with standard shipping. Below that, standard shipping costs $9.95, so adding a small item can pay for itself.
• Shop the clearance section. NordstromRack.com has a dedicated clearance area with categories such as new markdowns and limited-time price drops, on top of Rack’s regular off-price pricing.
• Check Flash Events. Rack describes Flash Events as curated collections that may be limited in quantity and can disappear once the event ends, so buy early if you see something you like.
• Use a Nordstrom credit card. Cardmembers get an extra 5% off at Nordstrom Rack, and approved new cardmembers receive $40 off a future purchase.
• Return in store to save the mail fee. Returning to any Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store is free, while mail returns cost $9.95 per prepaid label.
• Look for automatic promotions. Rack’s FAQ notes that many promotions apply automatically at checkout, and that codes, when offered, are listed on promotion pages.

Shipping

According to the Nordstrom Rack shipping and return policy, standard shipping is free on most orders over $89 before tax. Orders below $89 pay $9.95 for standard shipping. If you need your order sooner, Two Business Days shipping costs $15 and Next Business Day shipping costs $25. Regional surcharges can apply to orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Colorado.

Nordstrom Rack also offers Buy Online, Pick Up in Store for purchases made on NordstromRack.com or in the Nordstrom Rack app. Depending on your store and when you order, same-day, next-day or two-day pickup may be available, which is a handy way to skip shipping costs on smaller orders. Nordstrom cardmembers at Ambassador status or higher also get free shipping on NordstromRack.com purchases.

Returns

Nordstrom Rack gives you 40 days from the order or purchase date to return eligible items bought online or in a store. You can return items to any Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store for free. If you return by mail with a prepaid label, a $9.95 return shipping charge is deducted from your refund for each label used.

There are some exceptions. Beauty products must be unopened and can only be returned in store, car seats must be unopened in their original boxes, and fine jewelry bought at Nordstrom cannot be returned to Rack locations. Always check the item page for any additional restrictions before you buy.

The Nordy Club and the Nordstrom credit card

The Nordy Club is the free Nordstrom loyalty program, and you can join when you sign in on the Nordstrom Rack website. As of October 2026, the program page states that members no longer earn points on Nordstrom Rack purchases, although they still earn points on purchases at Nordstrom. Membership tiers include standard members, Influencers, Ambassadors and Icons.

The bigger Rack-specific perks come from the Nordstrom credit card:

• An extra 5% off at Nordstrom Rack when you pay with your Nordstrom credit card.
• $40 off your next purchase after you apply and are approved for a Nordstrom credit card. The bonus is delivered to your loyalty account, typically within 7 to 10 business days of approval, and existing cardmembers and employees are not eligible.
• Free shipping on NordstromRack.com for cardmembers at Ambassador status or higher.

As with any store card, it only makes sense if you can pay the balance in full, since interest would quickly erase the 5% savings.

Special discounts

We could not confirm a student, military, teacher or first-responder discount on the official Nordstrom Rack website as of October 2026. The site’s savings are built around off-price pricing, clearance and card perks instead.

Price match and price adjustments

Nordstrom Rack states clearly that it does not price match or make price adjustments, because its prices change often. If an item you bought drops in price later, the store will not refund the difference, so it pays to watch the clearance section before you buy rather than after.

Payment options and gift cards

Nordstrom Rack accepts major credit cards, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack gift cards, Nordstrom Notes, Afterpay, Apple Pay and PayPal. Afterpay splits a purchase into four interest-free payments, with the first due at purchase and the rest taken every two weeks. The FAQ notes that you cannot split one transaction across multiple credit cards. Gift cards do not expire, have no fees, and can be used at both Nordstrom Rack and Nordstrom, in stores and online, with up to five gift cards on one online order.

Sale calendar

Nordstrom Rack prices change constantly, and new markdowns are added to the clearance section regularly. The site also runs limited-time price drops and Flash Events throughout the year. Holiday periods and seasonal changeovers are common times for deeper clearance, but Rack does not publish a fixed sale calendar, so the clearance and new markdowns pages are the best places to check.

How to use a promo code at Nordstrom Rack

1. Add your items to your bag on NordstromRack.com or in the Nordstrom Rack app.
2. Go to checkout and sign in to your account.
3. If you have a promotion code from a Nordstrom Rack promotion page, enter it in the promo code field. Rack says codes are not case sensitive.
4. Check whether a promotion has already been applied automatically, since many Rack promotions do not need a code.
5. Choose shipping or in-store pickup, select your payment method, and review the total before placing the order.

If a code does not work, check its terms on the promotion page for exclusions, minimum spend or end dates.

Final tips

Combine the $89 free shipping threshold with free in-store returns to keep costs low, check clearance before paying full Rack price, and only use the Nordstrom credit card for the extra 5% if you will pay it off every month.
