PetSmart shopping guide: how to save more

How to save at PetSmart: the smartest ways

PetSmart rewards repeat shoppers, so the best savings come from Autoship, Treats Rewards and its price match guarantee. The most effective tactics as of September 2026:

1. Join Treats Rewards and sign in. It's free, earns 10 points per $1 on products and services, and unlocks free standard shipping on orders over $49.
2. Complete your profile. PetSmart awards bonus points for completing your Treats profile, and adding your pet's birthday or Gotcha Day earns a gift.
3. Set up Autoship. First Autoship orders typically get 35% off (up to $20 in savings), later orders get 5% off, and recurring Autoship spending earns bonus points.
4. Use the price match guarantee. Show proof of a lower active price from a direct-seller competitor, and PetSmart will match it.
5. Match PetSmart.com in store. If the website price is lower than the shelf price, the store will honor it.
6. Climb the tiers. Spending $500 a year unlocks Bestie (12 points per $1), and $1,000 unlocks VIPP (14 points per $1). Adopting a pet from PetSmart can qualify you for VIPP status right away.
7. Use grooming reward certificates. Treats Rewards members can receive grooming salon reward certificates (up to two a year).
8. Pick up in store. Buy online, pick up in store or curbside to skip shipping costs on small orders.
9. Stock up during holiday sales. Black Friday is usually the best time for beds, crates, aquariums and toys.

Shipping & delivery options

As of September 2026, Treats Rewards members get free standard shipping on orders over $49 when they're signed in before purchase. The total excludes tax but includes discounts. Otherwise, shipping costs depend on the products and method you choose and are shown at checkout.

• Standard shipping: Most orders in the 48 contiguous states arrive within 2 to 3 days.
• Guaranteed 2-day and next-day: Available when you order before noon ET.
• Alaska, Hawaii, PO boxes and military addresses: Limited to specific services, with restrictions on heavy or oversized items.
• Same-day delivery and pickup: Same-day delivery, in-store pickup and curbside pickup are available at many locations.

Items over 70 lbs, oversized or freight-only products and flammable items have shipping restrictions.

Return & exchange policy

PetSmart receipts are valid for 60 days from the date of purchase.

• With a receipt (within 60 days): Cash purchases get cash back, card purchases are credited to the original card, and gift card purchases are refunded to a merchandise return card.
• Without a receipt or after 60 days: Bring a valid ID to receive a merchandise return card for the most recent sale price; items must be in new or sellable condition.
• By mail: Call customer service to arrange a return and receive a label; a return shipping fee is deducted from your refund.
• Restrictions: Prescription medications can't be returned, and some items such as flea and tick products and services bought online can't be returned by mail.

Returning in store is usually the cheapest option because it avoids the shipping fee.

Treats Rewards explained

Treats Rewards is PetSmart's free loyalty program. There are no paid tiers.

Every 1,000 points equals $2 in savings. Points can't be used on gift cards or redeemed for cash, and points earned in a transaction can't be used in that same transaction. Points expire one year after they're earned, so redeem them regularly. Donations to PetSmart Charities earn double points. Details are on the Treats Rewards FAQ.

Student, military, teacher, senior & other discounts

As of September 2026, PetSmart does not officially advertise a standing student, military, teacher or senior discount. Its price match guarantee, Autoship and Treats Rewards are the most dependable ways to save.

Price matching & price adjustments

PetSmart has a price match guarantee that covers direct-seller competitors in pet specialty, grocery, pharmacy and big-box retail, both in their stores and on their official websites. Stores also match PetSmart.com prices. You'll need proof of the lower price, such as a receipt, ad or other confirmation, and the price must be active at the time of the match.

PetSmart won't match marketplace sellers (such as eBay, Amazon Marketplace, Walmart Marketplace or Temu), auction or reseller sites, price aggregators, clearance or liquidation events, BOGO or "free with purchase" offers, rebates, pets or services.

Payment options

PetSmart accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, PayPal and PetSmart gift cards. For buy now, pay later, Afterpay is available online and in stores, splitting purchases into four interest-free payments every two weeks (not available on gift cards). CODs, layaway and merchandise return cards aren't accepted online.

When PetSmart has its biggest sales

• Black Friday and Cyber Monday (November): Typically the year's deepest discounts on toys, beds, crates and habitats.
• Holiday season (December): Stocking stuffers and seasonal treats.
• Adoption events: PetSmart Charities adoption events can be a good time to pick up starter supplies, and adopting can qualify you for VIPP status.
• Year-round: Autoship first-order savings and member-exclusive prices in the app.

Dates vary every year, so treat these as typical windows rather than guarantees.
