How to save at PODS: the smartest ways

1. Ask for the current promotion at order time. The main PODS offer saves up to 25% on local delivery, redelivery/final pick-up fees and the first month's rental for new orders, but you must mention it when you order.
2. Use the code shown in the offers above if you serve. PODS lists the code shown in the offers above as the reference code for its military discount of up to 10%.
3. Commit to storage if you know you need it. A 3-month commitment brings free initial delivery and pick-up; 6 months adds a free re-delivery; 12+ months brings up to 25% off the monthly rate and two free re-deliveries.
4. Pick the right container size. PODS offers 8-foot, 12-foot and 16-foot containers. Renting one right-sized container is usually cheaper than paying delivery on two.
5. Load fast to cut rental months. Rent is charged monthly from the delivery date, so finishing loading and unloading within one billing cycle avoids paying for an extra month.
6. Apply codes before delivery. PODS says promotional codes only apply before your initial container delivery, so you can't add one later.
7. Refer friends. When someone you refer has their container delivered, you both receive a $50 Amazon.com gift card.
8. Avoid cancellation and failed-service fees. Reschedule instead of cancelling late, and make sure the delivery spot is accessible, since an attempted service that can't be completed can cost up to $150.

How PODS pricing works

PODS does not publish one national price list. Your quote is built from the delivery and pick-up (or long-distance transportation) charges, the monthly container rental, and any optional add-ons such as Contents Protection or moving blankets. Storage rent is due on the delivery date and then recurs monthly on the same date. For local moves PODS charges one day before the initial delivery or re-delivery date. For long-distance moves, the initial delivery and first month are billed one day before delivery, transportation is billed seven days before transit begins, and redelivery is billed one day before that service. Surcharges can apply in some situations, for example a non-paved surface fee when a container must be placed on gravel, dirt or grass.

You can keep your container on your property or have it stored at a PODS Storage Center. PODS says you can access a container stored at its facilities as often as needed with no additional charge, with 24 to 48 hours of notice.

Reservations, changes & cancellation

• Cancel at no cost if you contact PODS by 4 p.m. local time at least three days before the first container is scheduled to arrive.
• Cancelling after that deadline but before delivery costs $150.
• Once a container is delivered, the delivery fee, first month's rent and Contents Protection (if chosen) are non-refundable.
• Cancellations must be made by chat or phone; email and social media requests are not accepted.
• You can reschedule in your MyPODS account by the same deadline without a fee, and reduce the number of containers at no cost with the same notice.

Protection & coverage options

PODS offers two optional plans. Contents Protection covers the items inside the container and the container itself, with coverage levels from $5,000 up to $300,000 and a $100 deductible per claim; damaged items are replaced based on depreciated value, and damage from improper packing or normal shifting is excluded. Container Only protection covers just the PODS container against events like fire, windstorm, hail, vandalism and falling objects, and PODS suggests it if your homeowner's or renter's insurance already covers your belongings. Check your own policy before paying for overlapping coverage.

Moving supplies & add-ons

PODS sells moving supplies and locks, and it recommends a 2 3/4-inch (70mm) disc lock or a 1 3/4-inch padlock, which you can also buy at a home improvement store. Moving blankets can be added as a recurring charge. PODS also connects customers with packing and loading help. Buying boxes and a lock locally is often cheaper, so compare before adding supplies to your order. Supply orders must be cancelled by 3 p.m. local time at the destination, Monday through Friday, to avoid charges.

Military, student, senior & other discounts

PODS offers service members up to 10%: on local moves it applies to initial local delivery and the first month's storage, and on multi-location moves it covers the first month's storage, initial delivery and long-distance transportation. PODS lists the code shown in the offers above as the reference code. It can't be combined with other offers and is available at participating locations. We did not find a student, senior or AAA discount on pods.com as of September 2026. The referral program, which pays a $50 Amazon.com gift card to both you and a friend, is the other standing way to save.

Payment options

PODS accepts major credit cards and automatic ACH payments (Canada excludes Discover and ACH). You can split charges across more than one card by contacting your sales center. Paying a driver by check or cash requires location manager approval and must be arranged through an agent. Balances and payments are managed at my.pods.com under Billing.

Cheapest times to move or rent

Container demand typically peaks in late spring and summer and at the end of each month, when leases turn over, so mid-month and off-season dates often quote lower. Get quotes for a few different delivery dates and compare. If you'll store for a while, the 3, 6 and 12-month commitment deals can lower both the monthly rate and delivery costs, so a longer booking can be cheaper overall than paying month to month.

1. Get a quote on pods.com or by phone, entering your ZIP codes, dates and container size.
2. Check the PODS promo page for the current offers at participating locations.
3. Mention the promotion, or reference the code shown in the offers above for the military discount, when you place the order.
4. Confirm the discount appears on your order before the first container delivery; codes can't be applied afterwards.
5. Remember that PODS offers generally can't be combined, so choose the one that saves the most for your move.

A practical tip: if your plans are still changing, book early to lock in the promotion, then use free rescheduling in MyPODS (at least three days before delivery by 4 p.m. local time) rather than cancelling and rebooking, which could cost $150 and lose the offer.
