Starbucks is mostly an in-person and in-app business, so the usual coupon-site playbook of promo codes and free-shipping thresholds does not really apply. Most savings come through the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program and the Starbucks app, which was rebuilt with new member levels and perks in March 2026. Here is a quick summary of how saving works as of September 2026.
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Free shipping | Not applicable for most purchases; drinks and food are bought in store, at the drive-thru, by mobile order or through delivery partners |
| Returns | No general return policy is published for drinks and food; ask the store team if an order is wrong |
| Rewards program | Starbucks Rewards, free to join, with Green, Gold and Reserve levels |
| Student discount | None published by Starbucks |
| Military discount | None published by Starbucks |
| Price match | No price match policy |
| App | Yes, the Starbucks app handles ordering, payment, Stars and member offers |
Starbucks relaunched its loyalty program on March 10, 2026 with three levels. Here is the structure Starbucks describes on its official FAQ:
Redemption tiers, according to Starbucks, are 25 Stars (up to a $1 value), 60 Stars ($2 off any order), 100 Stars (up to $6, such as brewed coffee or a bakery item), 200 Stars (up to $10, such as a handcrafted drink or hot breakfast), 300 Stars (up to $16, such as a sandwich, protein box or whole bean coffee) and 400 Stars (up to $20). In practice, redeeming at the tier closest to the price of the item you actually want gives the best value per Star.
Starbucks runs two travel partnerships. With Delta, eligible linked Starbucks Rewards and SkyMiles members earn 1 mile per $1 spent at participating Starbucks stores starting August 5, 2026, plus Double Stars on days with a scheduled Delta flight. Starbucks notes that linked members must have flown a qualifying Delta flight within the previous 12 months, with a one-time grace period through October 5, 2026. With Marriott Bonvoy, linked members can earn Double Stars at participating stores during an eligible hotel stay, and can earn Bonvoy points during designated Marriott Bonvoy Weeks.
Because Starbucks sells prepared drinks and food, there is no free-shipping threshold to chase. You can order in the café, at the drive-thru, by mobile order in the app, or through delivery partners such as DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats at participating U.S. locations. Delivery orders may be priced differently and may not earn Stars the same way as app orders, so check the partner app before ordering if Stars matter to you.
Starbucks does not publish a general return policy for drinks and food. If your order is made incorrectly, the usual approach is to ask the barista to remake it. For issues with app orders, Stars or a Starbucks Card balance, contact Starbucks customer service through the app or starbucks.com.
As of September 2026, Starbucks does not publish a student, military, teacher or first-responder discount on its official site. Individual promotions sometimes appear in the app, but there is no standing program for these groups that we could confirm. The reusable-cup discount is the one broad, everyday discount open to everyone at participating stores.
Starbucks has no price match policy. Prices can vary by location, so the same drink may cost a little more or less in different stores.
You can pay with a registered Starbucks Card or with other payment methods in the app, and paying through the app is the easiest way to make sure your Stars are credited. Starbucks gift cards and eGifts are sold on starbucks.com and in stores. Starbucks occasionally runs eGift promotions, such as a May 2026 offer that gave a bonus $5 eGift with a $25 eGift purchase for a limited number of customers, so it is worth checking the gift card page before a holiday or birthday.
Starbucks offers almost never involve typing a code. Instead:
Program details can change, so review the Starbucks Rewards terms in the app for the latest rules.
Starbucks is a Seattle-based coffeehouse company that sells handcrafted espresso drinks, brewed coffee, tea, food and whole bean coffee through its cafés, drive-thrus and mobile app. Its Starbucks Rewards loyalty program was relaunched in March 2026 with Green, Gold and Reserve member levels.
