How to save at Walmart: the smartest ways

Walmart's everyday low prices are the starting point. These tactics help you save beyond the shelf price:

1. Try Walmart+ for $1. The 30-day trial lets you test free shipping, free delivery and fuel savings before paying the $98 annual fee.
2. Check Walmart+ Assist. Qualifying government assistance recipients can get Walmart+ at 50% off, or $49 a year.
3. Match Walmart.com prices in store. If an identical, in-stock item is cheaper on Walmart.com, ask for a price match at checkout.
4. Use free pickup. Store pickup lets you avoid shipping and delivery fees on small orders.
5. Save on gas. Walmart+ members save 10 cents per gallon at Walmart, Murphy, Exxon, Mobil and participating CITGO stations.
6. Shop Walmart Deals events. These multi-day sales run in summer and fall, with Walmart+ members getting early access to select deals.
7. Use the streaming perk. Walmart+ includes a choice of Paramount+ or Peacock (ad-supported), which can replace a separate subscription.
8. Buy holiday gifts early. Items bought from October 1 through December 31 can be returned until January 31.

Shipping & delivery options

As of September 2026, Walmart+ members get free next-day and two-day shipping from Walmart.com with no order minimum on items sold or shipped by Walmart. Non-members pay shipping below Walmart's free shipping threshold, which appears at checkout.

• Delivery from your store: Free for Walmart+ members on orders over $35. Smaller orders have a $6.99 minimum order fee.
• Same-day delivery: Available on select items with a $35 minimum.

Return & exchange policy

Most items bought from Walmart can be returned within 90 days of purchase or receipt. You can return in store or by mail, and many items can be started from your Purchase History.

• Wireless phones: 14 days.
• Marketplace items: Usually 30 days, depending on the seller.

Walmart+ membership explained

Walmart says annual members save an average of $380 a year using their benefits, though your savings depend on how often you order. Note that $1 trial, free-trial student and Walmart+ Assist members have been excluded from some early-access perks.

Student, military, teacher, senior & other discounts

• Government assistance recipients: Walmart+ Assist cuts the membership price by 50%.

Price matching & price adjustments

Walmart stores will match the price of an identical item advertised on Walmart.com if it is in stock online and you ask at checkout. The store manager on duty has the final say.

Walmart does not match competitors' prices, Marketplace seller prices, other Walmart stores, or Walmart.com special events such as clearance, Rollbacks and Black Friday deals. Walmart.com also does not adjust the price if an item drops after you buy it online.

How to use a Walmart promo code

1. Sign in to your Walmart account on Walmart.com or the app.
2. Add items to your cart and go to checkout.
3. Enter the code in the promo code field and apply it.
4. Check the discount before placing the order.

Walmart rarely issues sitewide codes. Most codes are for first delivery orders, Walmart+ trials or specific categories, and they often exclude Marketplace items, gift cards and alcohol. If a code fails, check whether it requires a minimum order value, a specific fulfillment method such as delivery, or a first-time customer account.
